The Windows version (which is what I tested) is a mere 38MB download that installs in seconds. Vivaldi is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Vivaldi is off to strong start, as I'll show. The browser dubbed Brave (still in beta) from Mozilla's ex-CEO has been making waves of its own, too, but not always in a good way. The biggest splash was made by Microsoft Edge, which comes with the Windows 10 operating system. Vivaldi is one of the latest salvos in the recently reinvigorated browser scene. Vivaldi owes its existence to von Tetzchner's dissatisfaction with the available browsers, which are increasingly similar and stripped down, with the notable exception of Maxthon. Vivaldi is the brainchild of Opera Software's founder and former CEO, Jon von Tetzchner. For the moment, however, it lacks some basic features that its more mature competitors offer, such as a Reading mode, Share buttons, a syncing service, and mobile versions. It's very usable, and standard browser features and innovations alike are well implemented in a clear, efficient, and intuitive way. It's also fast and highly compliant with all the latest Web standards. With Vivaldi's latest update to version 1.3, the makers of this Internet underdog claim that its software offers customization "beyond what has ever been offered in a Web browser." Hyperbolic though this claim may be, interface customization is one of this newcomer's real strengths.
